Leading University Standardizes on Empirix to Advance Knowledge on IMS Network Service Quality

Postgraduates learn real-world challenges of IMS network deployments using Empirix's Hammer solution

Bedford, MA – November 02, 2009 – Empirix™ Inc., the global market leader in service quality assurance solutions for new IP communications, today announced that a leading Swiss technical university will use Empirix's Hammer for IMS testing and monitoring solution as part of a new postgraduate course in "Next-generation IP Networks". The University of Applied Science of Western Switzerland in Fribourg (EIA-FR) chose the solution to teach students how to master some of the practical challenges of rolling out IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) network architectures.

IMS is increasingly being adopted by communication service providers as a new framework for delivering voice, video, data, messaging, fixed and mobile services over a single core network. Other benefits of IMS include more cost-effective service delivery, the ability to create new, convergent services more easily, and simplified network and service management. However, its complexity also poses new practical challenges for telecoms professionals tasked with rolling out and managing IMS-based networks. The goal of this new course is to prepare students to overcome these challenges more readily by training them in the use of key tools such as testing and monitoring systems.

"The Computer Science division of the University provides unique opportunities to learn about the latest technologies that shape the ICT industry. Offering a postgraduate course that focuses solely on the study of IMS is just another facet of our ability to remain at the cutting edge of academic teaching," said Antoine Delley, Head of ICT Department at EIA-FR. "Empirix has been setting the standard in IMS quality assurance for many years, so it was a logical conclusion that we would utilize Hammer for IMS as part of our new Master of Science course."

Empirix has a long history of experience in the IMS space, including publishing a book on the subject, Ensuring a Quality IMS Experience, which outlines strategies and examples for overcoming the challenges of transitioning to IMS.  By offering an extensive portfolio of best-in-class solutions for device, systems, and end-to-end network testing, Hammer for IMS helps service providers and network equipment manufacturers ensure the quality of their new IMS infrastructure and services.

"Assisting in the adoption of IMS demonstrates the university's commitment to being at the forefront of the latest technologies in the telecommunications industry," commented Raphael Tsitrin, European Director of Channel Partners and Strategic Alliances of Empirix.  "Seeing Hammer for IMS being used to teach telecoms professionals as part of this unique course reinforces the important role of the Hammer suite in assuring next generation networks and service quality."
