VoIP Monitoring: HammerTM XMS

Next generation services VoIP monitoring for carrier class VoIP networks

Hammer XMS is a carrier-class VoIP monitoring solution designed to ensure the reliability and quality of next-generation services.  Hammer XMS integrates active and passive VoIP monitoring, providing the truest assessment of network and service behavior.  Synthesizing a wide range of critical operations data--from real-time metrics on network performance to extensive signaling and media metrics on every call down to detailed diagnostic data-- makes Hammer XMS a valuable asset across multiple groups within a service provider organization.  With Hammer XMS, Network Engineering, Planning, Operations and Customer Care teams are more efficient and confident in rapidly deploying new services as well as in maintaining services with higher quality and at lower cost.

By combining the strengths of active testing for even complex end-to-end transactions with best of breed passive VoIP monitoring, Hammer XMS provides a multi-dimensional view of test calls as well as live traffic propagating through the network.

For Active VoIP monitoring, Hammer XMS emulates IP or TDM end points and simulates both basic and featured voice and fax calls between active probes. Media and signaling quality metrics and test results are forwarded to a centralized server for correlation, analysis, reporting and storage.  Additionally, Hammer XMS passively probes, captures, correlates and analyzes signaling and media packets to assess the quality of every call — 24x7.  Using specialized packet processing hardware the system handles Gigabit wire rates.

The Hammer XMS Operations Server correlates active test results and passive metrics captured in multiple call records, manages a high performances call record database,  provides web accessible reports and feeds real time metrics to Network Management Systems.

IXCs, LECs, Cable MSOs and VoIP carriers rely on Hammer XMS to keep the networks running and their customers happy.

Features

System

  • Web-based GUI for multi-user remote access to integrated active and passive VoIP monitoring metrics and reports
  • Open architecture to interface with existing Network Management Systems
  • Highly scalable architecture to meet carrier class requirements

Passive VoIP Monitoring

  • CDR generation for all calls with call control and media statistics, and correlation across IP and TDM protocols
  • Multi-protocol ladder diagram and diagnostics, down to the protocol message for any call, including simulated test calls
  • Direct RTP stream quality measurement at wire-rate speeds without relying on network equipment
  • Voice quality assessment using standard R-factor calculation (E-model, ITU-T G.107)

Active VoIP Monitoring

  • Standard algorithms to measure voice and fax quality for both TDM and IP calls [PESQ (ITU-T P.862) for active, E-model (ITU-T G.107) for passive]
  • Simple scheduling for active tests in any point-to-point, hub and spoke, or mesh configuration
  • Flexible call generation for testing high value added VoIP features
  • Multi-dimensional view of test calls through integration with passive VoIP monitoring
  • Voice quality assessment using PESQ (ITU-T P.862)
