Empirix E-XMS

Video Service Assurance Monitoring Solution

Consumer demand for anytime, anywhere video is driving an unprecedented volume of traffic over fixed and mobile networks around the globe. Multi-service environments supporting video delivery are extremely complex and many factors can affect quality. Operators need complete visibility to quickly troubleshoot issues and ensure a great customer experience.

By correlating QoS (Quality of Service), QoE (Quality of Experience), and control plane metrics, Empirix E-XMS for Video end-to-end monitoring solution provides the most complete picture of video performance available. It also offers an analysis of the impact video traffic load has on other services. Empirix E-XMS for Video pinpoints issues in complex environments and proactively predicts service degradation issues before they affect customers. With total visibility into network performance and customer behaviors, operators can make smarter decisions regarding marketing, infrastructure investments, and plant expansions.

  • QoS (Quality of Service) metrics: ETSI TR 101-290 priority 1 and 2 and performance class, bandwidth, video packet loss, sequence and duplication errors, video frame arrival time and jitter, signal-to-noise ratio, video transmission quality with identification of unicast, multicast and broadcast video.
  • QoE (Quality of Experience) metrics: MOS (Mean Opinion Score) for video, audio, and AV interaction, detection of static, frozen image and no content images, video recording, and playback with user-configurable triggered capture. For deeper analysis of video and audio issues, Empirix reports codec type, MPEG group of pictures, detection of progressive or interlaced video, number of frames per second, and aspect ratio.
  • Control plane metrics: Empirix supports the analysis of IGMP (for IPTV multicast joins - channel change), RTSP (for video on demand commands) and HTTP (for web and mobile video). The system provides success/failure information, service host and client information, URL, session identifiers, HTTP error codes, transaction start and end times, and analysis of authentication requests.
  • Correlation with transport layer: Supplementing its rich video analysis capabilities, Empirix analyzes the performance of the IP and mobile network parameters providing information about mobile subscriber identity, access point, radio network node, area code, and device identifiers.
