Fixed Mobile Convergence
Background
With the migration of mobile and fixed line networks to all IP networks and the explosion of Smartphones with dual mode radios that can support both cellular (GSM, UMTS or CDMA) and WLAN, new market opportunities are available for service providers to deliver a comprehensive service that converges mobile and fixed-line networks.
Service providers with extensive investments in DSL and Cable infrastructure have the unique opportunity to leverage it as they introduce mobile services. These operators can provide better coverage as well as conserve spectrum, routing traffic through WLAN access points via their fixed line network when available. Value added services such as single phone number voice service can be introduced that can seamlessly hand over in-process voice calls between Circuit Switched mobile and VoIP over WLAN access networks.
A successful deployment of an FMC service requires that the customer QoE (Quality of Experience) be consistent regardless of the access network being used. In particular, three areas have to be managed carefully:- Voice call continuity
- Voice call quality
- Subscriber authentication
Hammer XMS™ verifies seamless integration
Hammer XMS leverages its unparalleled strengths of visibility and correlation across TDM and packet domains to provide a monitoring solution focused on QoE across WLAN and macro networks. The benefits of using a monitoring solution for FMC topology include:- Comprehensive view of the network with measureable indicators to assure service delivery of mobile services
- Voice quality measurement as subscribers transition between WLAN and macro networks
- Extensive diagnostic capabilities to reduce mean time to resolution and increase operational efficiency
Hammer XMS provides a single solution with complete visibility across networks and domains; key features include:
- Full correlation of mobility management, call management, authentication, and registration
- Support for protocols including MAP, CAP, IS-41, SIP, RTP, IMS-VCC, CAMEL and WIN Services
